Lovely post! I love your analysis on the current Booktok/ Bookstagram situation. Neither do I know ‘teaching someone guitar’ is a trope! But yeah as someone who also does book hunting on these platforms I also realise those trends happening.

I’ve seen a lot of mood board going on. I did look at some of reels which mentions the books I’ve read and somehow I feel like the moodboard is quite different from my imagination and feeling while reading/ thinking about that book.

I do agree your point on the decimal ratings. I want to critical and judgemental on my book review but I don’t want to upset the authors and the readers who like the books, sometimes the story is good but it needs improving.

This is a fantastic summary! A few thoughts:

1) another term I’ve heard for 6 star reads is infinity or infinite ♾️ star reads

2) re: decimal ratings - I think readers feel bad rating books a 3 or lower (maybe even a 4 or lower), especially now that we often can engage directly with authors on social media. I feel like the decimals, especially between 4 and 5 and then new 6 star, are giving readers more options to rank books without offending authors

3) I wonder if Bat boy fall was influenced by its predecessor Rat boy summer?? https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a61102350/hot-rodent-men-summer-trend/
