I feel like the mom demographic leans more towards IG and FB, and learning how to use TikTok feels like a whole thing. I have no data to back this up lol
What I notice, purely through what you share here, is just how much aesthetic WORK and privilege go into BookTok ~ the things that finally pushed me away from Bookstagram. I’m curious about whether it’s remotely possible to be popular on BookTok without full walls of built in bookshelves with hundreds of hardcovers or really done really long hair and full professional-level makeup???? Is there a subset of popular Booktokkers with relatable and boring living quarters and frizzy hair and natural faces? Or is this all a lie and those shelves and the makeup are AI-generated? What a very interesting time we are living in 🙃
I do think some of the BookTokers are less glam - even if they have perfect hair, they all love a big sweatshirt. And maybe they only have one particular corner with perfect shelves? But it's definitely an extremely specific aesthetic that no one is really deviating from. It's a lot of studied casualness
Love that term - studied casualness! My bookstagram days involved so many purchased things solely for the sake of pictures 🫣 Love your take on this as always!
A Kylie Kelce Book Club would actually be so cool, tbh
right?! Kylie, please!
